An energy gel combining hydrogel technology, carbohydrates, and caffeine. Caffeine is bitter, and in energy gels, bitterness is masked by adding flavors and acids or simply by reducing caffeine concentration. Maurten solved this problem by using hydrogel technology. The hydrogel biopolymer matrix encapsulates caffeine and carbohydrates. Therefore, the GEL 100 CAF 100 gel has less caffeine bitterness, an effective caffeine concentration is achieved, and carbohydrates are less irritating to the digestive tract. This is the world's first sports nutrition product with caffeine that utilizes hydrogel technology.
GEL 100 CAF 100 - 100 mg of caffeine - this is equivalent to 1.5 espresso coffees or 1 cup of black coffee. This is a lot compared to many traditional gels. Also, 1 gel contains 25 grams of carbohydrates (fructose and glucose in a 0.8:1 ratio), which allows for the absorption of up to 100g of carbohydrates per hour. WHY CAFFEINE?
Caffeine has been shown to increase alertness and reduce fatigue. These properties of caffeine can be beneficial during exercise.
ENERGY
Studies have shown that our body can absorb about 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour. However, recent scientific research has found that using fructose and glucose in a ratio of 0.8:1 allows the body to absorb up to 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour. GEL 100 and GEL 100 CAF 100 are formulated using this fructose and glucose ratio, allowing athletes to get the maximum amount of energy.
CONSUMPTION
Developing a race nutrition strategy is a complex task. Everyone is different, and the rate of caffeine absorption and metabolism varies between individuals. There are two main factors to consider: your body weight and whether you are accustomed to consuming caffeine. It is recommended to consume 3 mg of caffeine per kilogram of body weight, but again, this is highly individual.
DURATION OF PHYSICAL EXERTION <1 HOUR
BEFORE: Approximately 200 mg of caffeine is recommended before physical exertion. This can be achieved by drinking one cup of coffee and consuming GEL 100 CAF 100 during warm-up. You can consume 2 GEL 100 CAF 100, but the total carbohydrate content is slightly too high for this duration of physical activity.
DURATION OF PHYSICAL EXERTION <2 HOURS
2-3 servings of GEL 100 CAF 100 are recommended. BEFORE: Consume 2 GEL 100 CAF 100. DURING EXERTION: 1 GEL 100 CAF 100 after 30 minutes. Remember to also consume GEL 100, Drink Mix 160 or Drink Mix 320. During such physical exertion, it is advisable to consume about 30-60 grams of carbohydrates per hour.
DURATION OF PHYSICAL EXERTION >2 HOURS
BEFORE: 2 GEL 100 CAF 100. DURING EXERTION: 1 GEL 100 CAF 100 after 30 minutes, then consume 1 GEL 100 CAF 100 every other hour. Remember to also consume GEL 100, Drink Mix 160 or Drink Mix 320. During such physical exertion, it is advisable to consume about 60-90 grams of carbohydrates per hour. Caffeine is not suitable for everyone. Not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women.
