In just a few years, padel has grown from a niche game into a global sport. On 14 October 2026, the International Padel Federation (FIP) published its latest World Padel Report, covering players, courts and the sport’s economic impact.
What does the FIP 2026 report show?
FIP reports more than 40 million active padel players worldwide and annual court growth of over 20%. The report also includes an economic impact study conducted with OpenEconomics: the global padel industry generates around €6.84 billion in annual spending, €13.07 billion in economic output and €8.6 billion in GDP, while supporting more than 235,000 jobs.
These are global figures compiled and estimated by FIP, not a forecast for Lithuania or for any individual store. They do, however, show the scale at which the padel community and its infrastructure are expanding.
What does this mean for players?
As more people take up the sport and more courts are built, the choice of padel equipment grows too. But the racket used by a top professional is not automatically the best choice for a beginner. Choose based on your experience, technique, comfort and whether you value control or power more.
How to choose a padel racket
- Shape and sweet spot. Round rackets often offer a larger hitting area and can make the ball easier to control. Diamond-shaped models are generally designed for power, while teardrop shapes aim to balance control and power.
- Weight and balance. A lighter racket may feel easier to manoeuvre, especially in long or fast rallies. A higher balance can help generate power, but may require more strength and technique.
- Firmness and feel. A softer racket often feels more comfortable and may help with easy ball rebound. A firmer surface gives a different, more direct response; the feel also depends on your technique and the ball.
- Your level matters more than a pro’s name. Look for a racket that lets you keep control and play comfortably, instead of choosing only because your favourite player uses it.
